Event: Reach In Love for AIDS/HIV research

Caption: The Table is a new community of faith being birthed in Sacramento, CA. On Sunday, September 18, 2011 this community joined others in Sacramento to Reach In Love for AIDS/HIV research as they ran/walked the AIDS 5K Run. This was The Table’s first communal act and shirts were made for the occasion. Here is one of the teenagers, who finished 19th overall, taking a rest outside the doors of the sanctuary a few moments before worship.

Caption: Since the middle of July our church has been wrestling with some of the questions that God asks. Although we often think that these questions are rhetorical, they really aren’t. God really wants us to answer these questions, honestly, not simply with the “right” answers. It has been an amazing time of community, wrestling together to discover our place in the mystery – where answers are paradoxical and ambiguous – where God is.

Caption: Breakfast Liturgy is a cross-generational and cross-cultural sacramental community. We gather every second and fourth Sunday of the month at 10:00 a.m. The gathering is Eucharistic in spirit as our community meets around the table to share food, tell stories, listen to the Word, live into the Gospel lesson, pray and are finally sent forth to continue our prayers with our hands, as we work and serve in our communities.

Church: Vintage Vespers

Caption: These photos are from our monthly alt worship/transformance art event. The theme for our May Vespers was the Ascension of Christ. It was an installation exploring the strangeness of the event and how we should interpret it today. We don’t try to give answers but rather open a space where new or difficult questions can be raised, then allowing people the opportunity to reflect and explore on their own. It was a come and go style event with ten projectors and three stations for reflection/prayer. The videos were set on a thirty-minute loop. The altered televisions are the work of a local artist, Trisha Parker.
